講座人簡介：Dr Chen was awarded a PhD in Chemistry in 1998 from Lanzhou University. From 1999-2001 Dr Chen was a Humboldt Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz, Germany. She was employed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) as a Professor during 2001-2007 at the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics. During her time at CAS, Dr Chen was awarded a significant research grant through the prestigious ‘Hundred Talents Program’.

Dr. Miao Chen joined in CSIRO as a CSIRO OCE Science Leader in 2007. CSIRO, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, is Australia's national science agency and one of the largest and most diverse research agencies in the world. Dr Chen leads a multidisciplinary team of the research from the fields of chemistry, materials science, physics and biology. Dr Chen has developed a keen interest in the area of - the fundamental issues related to micro/nanostructures of thin films, electrochemistry and the applications of the functionalised surface to bio-electronic devices, surface lubrication and protection. Dr Chen has over 100 ISI journal papers published and has presented at numerous international conferences. Her current research is focus on:

? Microbe-mineral interaction (mechanism and kinetics);

? Surface and interface in situ characterization (minerals and materials processing/corrosion);

? Sensing materials and Solid-state electrochemical sensors;

? Electrochemistry of sulfides;

? Low grade ore, mining tailings processing, waste materials process, acid mine drainage manage and remediation;
